NJ Hate Watch: Announcing Far Right Vehicle Catalog

NJ Hate Watch announces the creation of the Far Right Vehicle Catalog page.

As marginalized people and antifascists know, the far right has a certain obsession with their vehicles and often reflect whatever brand of far right ideology they have with them. The far right’s preoccupation with their cars goes beyond surface aesthetics as they often use them to intimidate, harass, and wage violence against marginalized communities. Vehicles have become a common tool that the far right uses to inflict mass causalities from infamous cases such as the murder of Heather Heyer and George Floyd protestors being mass targeted across the so-called United States. In this region, the far right have also increasingly been using vehicles to create massive blockades in recent years to push their agenda.

Far too often the far right feels emboldened to attack various marginalized communities and do so proudly signifying their ideology. So far in this region they haven’t been challenged or documented in this way. If we hope to protect our communities and be proactive against a prolific type of warfare from the far right we must take them head on.

NJ Hate Watch is thereby creating a catalog of far right vehicles, their owners, and any other information that may be relevant. If you are interested in making a submission please refer to our about page.

NJ Hate Watch Far Right Vehicle Catalog guidelines: We are looking explicitly for white supremacist, racist, queerphobic, xenophobic, antisemitic, and any other signifiers that indicate far right ideology or hate. Someone with MAGA, pro Trump, or other base line right or conservative stickers on their vehicles do not qualify solely based on that content alone.  While your average Trump supporter or wannabe patriot should be treated with caution, these particular types of stickers or content do not necessarily indicate the level of extreme ideology and hate we are looking to document and track.

  1. Include a clear picture of the vehicle that also includes the license plate
  2. Include time, date, location, and any other important observable information about the vehicle for context.
  3. Include as much information as possible about the driver or occupants physical description.
  4. Include any helpful information about vehicle behavior.

Vehicle behavior can be an aggravating factor in context to the type of right/far right signage that is on a vehicle that elevates it to the level of being submission worthy. For example: a truck bearing MAGA and other “pro America” stickers has been seen regularly harassing interracial couples on your block and always speeds away before being caught. You manage to take a picture as you see it later in your neighborhood. While their signage alone would not qualify them, it in combination with observed behavior elevates this person and their vehicle to be submission worthy.
