Conservative group Turning Point USA (TPUSA), has planned a “Live Free Tour” including an event at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ on March 20, 2023 at 7 pm featuring Candace Owens and TPUSA founder, Charlie Kirk.
The event occurs on around the same time period as the proposed strike by the Rutgers AAUP-AFT union in March. The university has not renewed the union’s contract and has employed union busting firms against the union.
In October 2022, antifascists defended a protest in opposition to an event held by TPUSA at UC Davis that was attacked by the Proud Boys.
According to the It’s Going Down article, a self-identified member of TPUSA was seen fraternizing with the group of Proud Boys and proceeded to film the protestors.
As the article states “Filming protesters represents a threat to their well-being, especially when the person filming clearly shares an affinity with fascists. Photos and videos are frequently used to identify individuals who then become targets of violent fascist gangs like the Proud Boys and WLM.” (White Lives Matter)
